Hillbrook Anglican School

CTP obtained development approvals for demolition of original buildings and construction of new buildings to reflect the school’s growth and maturity embodied in the school motto “In balance we grow” and its underlying belief that all schools must Dare to Dream.

A new entry statement was designed to retain existing character but allows for a more contemporary reflection of the school’s evolving identity which generates pride, respect and ownership. New buildings accommodate a modern Administration Centre and staff room, seven state-of-the-art Science laboratories and breakout spaces, new English classrooms and a new Cafeteria.

Moreton Bay College

CTP contributed expertise to the development of the school Master Plan to facilitate the transition of year 7 to secondary school in 2015. The built form of many buildings was not fit for purpose and the campus was devoid of a strong visible ‘presence’ in the community. Pedestrian circulation was chaotic and vehicular circulation fragmented, dividing the campus and failing to create a community hub. The master plan sought to:

. document the school’s long term aspirations and objectives for the campus,

·       inform and inspire the school community of proposed developments within the projected timeframe and the financial resources required,

·       utilise and recycle existing buildings to their full potential,

·       make effective use of the site’s features,

·       emphasise and plan for ecological sustainability.

UQ Downtown

CTP obtained development approval to establish a campus of the University of Queensland (Faculty of Business, Economics & Law) in a heritage listed building in the Brisbane CBD.

Known as UQ Brisbane City, the multimillion-dollar project is a unique, custom-built learning and meeting space with ground floor cafe run by the award-winning team from Customs House, which presents a rare shopfront in the business world, improving access to professional development opportunities for current and future students, alumni, partners and staff to have direct opportunities to connect with key decision makers and influencers in the financial district of Brisbane’s CBD.

Digital LED School Signs

School Signs

CTP provided advice to SignPac’s specialised school signs division on the approval requirements for the installation of digital LED advertising signs for various Queensland schools.

Signpac has developed and delivered innovative and leading-edge digital, educational, safety and directional display signage for more than 25 years across the education and learning sector.

Because relevant provisions of Queensland planning legislation exempt public sector entities from the need for approval and deny Council planning schemes from making certain development or works assessable, CTP was able to advice the client that Council approval was not required if the work was carried out by or for the Queensland Education Department (a public sector entity), however that did not extend to approval required under other legislation (eg building approvals under the Building Act).

Country Lane Early Learning Centre

Country Lane Early Learning Centre

CTP obtained development approval for a 35 place child care centre (stage 1) adjoining a dementia day care facility in a rural residential area at Mudgeeraba.

As portrayed in the ABC social experiment program “Old People’s Home for 4 year Olds”, the site’s co-location next to a dementia day care facility advanced the concept of non-familial intergenerational interactions. Changing economic, demographic and social pressures in Australia, create an increased need for quality and cost-effective care arrangements for both older people and young children. Finding appropriate care for both older people and young children in Australia is often difficult and unsuitable for the person in need of care or their carer, so the synergies to be achieved by their new neighbours were readily supported. Intergenerational care programs give children the opportunity to learn from and connect with an older generation, improve children’s behaviour and attitude towards older people and enhance the overall well-being of both young and old participants.

St Pauls School

St Pauls School

CTP provided advice to St Pauls School on the development potential for a portion of land located on the campus considered to be surplus to its needs. Preliminary views of the client was that it may be suitable either for establishment of a retirement village or residential subdivision.

Town planning investigations undertaken by CTP identified:

(1)    local, regional and state planning designations of the site;

(2)    potential uses to which the site may be put;

(3)    measures that potential uses will be required to be assessed against;

(4)    the approvals process and processing timeframes;

(5)    further investigations required to inform the nature and scale of development opportunity.
